Funeral of Yevgeny Prigozhin
The funeral of Yevgeny Prigozhin, former leader of the Wagner private military group, is scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg. Prigozhin, along with several colleagues from Wagner, tragically lost their lives in a plane crash within Russia. While the investigation into the crash is ongoing, no official statement regarding its causes has been released by Russian authorities. President Vladimir Putin, a few days after the incident, offered his condolences to the families of the crash victims and mentioned the incident for the first time.
In late June, Prigozhin, along with his Wagner associates, undertook a march toward Moscow, demanding the resignation of high-ranking officials within the Russian Army, particularly the Ministry of Defence. However, the march was brought to a halt following an agreement between Prigozhin and Belarus President Lukashenko, after which they returned to their base. Tragically, only a few weeks later, Prigozhin met his demise in the plane crash over Russian skies.
As inquiries arose about whether President Putin would attend Prigozhin’s funeral, Dmitry Peskov announced that Putin would not be present at the funeral ceremony. The circumstances surrounding Prigozhin’s death and his recent activities have captured attention, shedding light on the complex dynamics within Russia’s security landscape.
